These oven-fried yams were inspired by fellow copywriter Kelly Parkinson of Copylicious.
Kelly saw our recipe for Crispy Oven-Fried Potatoes (made with Idaho potatoes) and asked, “Do you think I could do this with yams/sweet potatoes…”
Yes, indeed—glad to provide tasty nutrition to fuel your next creative burst, Kelly.
Seared with garlicky spices and extra-virgin olive oil, these yam chips are crispy on the edges and chewy in the center. Thanks for the great idea, Kelly!
Crispy Oven-Fried Yams
2 medium-size yams or sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced very thin
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
Kosher salt, about 1 teaspoon
Ground paprika, about 1 teaspoon
Garlic powder, about 1/2 teaspoon
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Use one tablespoon of oil to grease a cookie sheet.
- Slice yams thinly. You must use the sliced yams immediately; they turn brown quickly.
- Arrange yam slices on the cookie sheet.
- Drizzle remaining oil over yam slices.
- Sprinkle yams with salt and spices.
- Bake yams for 15 minutes.
- Slide cookie sheet from oven, turn yam slices over and return sheet to oven. Bake 10-15 more minutes.
- Remove yams from oven and serve hot with lots of ketchup.
Serves 4.
